It’s the end of the church year. While it might seem like we have finally arrived and now we can relax; Jesus is on the throne and all is well with the world, the reality is that this ending is the foundation for a new beginning. In this new beginning Jesus is seated on the throne: Eternal Judge, King of kings and Lord of lords. For those who know and love him, judgement is done and dusted.
When our last day comes we will hear him say well done good and faithful servants, come on in I have a place prepared for you. However, in the meantime we live and serve on the foundation that has been laid by our King and Saviour Jesus. He equips us with power to live and serve under his authority.
In the revelation text today, chapter one verse 6, the word says “he lets us rule as kings and serve God his father as priests.” We do that on the foundation laid down by Jesus himself who came not to be served but to serve.
What a wonderful foundation. We, who are in Christ, continue in his ministry, in his Kingdom serving his world.
