See the glory road – he was tempted by it too. But he set his course with Jerusalem in view. (Robin Mann, AT 190)
Jesus was on his way towards Jerusalem. Jerusalem was known as the holy city, but it now represented the opposition to God’s prophets and the impending rejection and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
When he is warned about the dangers of Jerusalem, Jesus replies with words that confront the injustice of this city, but still express his deep longing and love for its people – the same deep longing and love for all people in a world that has turned against him.
