“Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” (Deuteronomy 5:12) – so begins the commandment and so I pondered the demands this would make on OUR lives today, if only we, as a people, were able to obey even a portion of the Lord’s commands to obey Him.
God reminded Moses that the people were slaves in Egypt before He brought them out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. So God commands them to “observe the Sabbath day” as a weekly celebration of the occasion by resting from their work.
The Sabbath rest is a worship time; a time for reflection, refreshment and restoration, a time for relaxation and sharing with family, servants and guests and also for animals, as rest is also important for them – a break from the drudgery of continual labor (slavery).
Todays focus is on the Sabbath (nowadays Sunday for us) and as we reflect on what this means for us and our family, brothers & sisters; how we spend this time of rest each week – a time originally designed for sharing in rest & worship to our God and our Lord and Saviour ,Jesus Christ, and fulfilling commitments to our family, our friends and wider church family in sharing & service to them also.
Perhaps, even charging some of the things we now do and moving forward in a new direction to the benefit of others that we do not do now?
The Lord bless you with Peace as we Worship together this Sunday,
