I am wondering:
Do you have good neighbours?
Are you thankful for your good neighbours?
What makes a good neighbour?
Are you, am I, a good neighbour?
I wonder if there is anything that would make me a better neighbour?
In the gospel we heard today, there’s the story of the Good Samaritan. For Jews, a Samaritan was in no way shape or form meant to be a good neighbour. However, it turns out, surprisingly to Jesus’ Jewish listeners, that a Samaritan can indeed be a good neighbour – Even a godly neighbour.
We could spend time considering ‘the other person’, but today let’s consider ourselves. I am wondering, am I a good neighbour; am I a godly neighbour?
As good and godly neighbours, God invites us to share the good news of salvation with our neighbours. He asks us to do it in what we say, in what we do, and in what we pray! In the letter to the Colossians, the apostle Paul remind these dear Christian people in the congregation that not only is he praying for them but that he is thanking God for them.
So today’s word will be an encouragement to us as God’s people to pray for each other, to follow the prompting of the Spirit in loving and encouraging each other as Disciples of Jesus. Lord, show us more ways that we can care for each other and love our neighbours.
