What are you most often or strongly tempted by? Food? Gossip? Jealousy? Sex? Anger? Money? Alcohol? Laziness? Pride? Social media? Workaholism? Social status?
The list could go on with all sorts of creative variations. Which are your favourites? Or your greatest weaknesses? We usually have at least one and these can vary at different stages in our lives.
Jesus also had many temptations and today we will explore three from Luke’s Gospel. How did Jesus handle temptation? In a surprisingly simple way that is available to us all. The Romans reading for this Sunday (Romans 10:8-11) tells us that God’s Word is in OUR mouth and heart. So when we confess “Jesus is Lord” we have the power to thwart any temptation that might come our way because we have Jesus as our “big brother”, and we can let the temptation “go through to the keeper” (Jesus).
