The Gospel of Luke today has the story of 2 shameless people. In their social status they were polar opposites. The one a judge with wealth, power and social influence at his fingertips. The other a widow who had been treated unjustly and felt powerless against it.
The Judge was shameless in the way he wielded his authority with little regard for guilt or innocence. The widow who shamelessly kept on coming back to the court seeking fair treatment. She was shameless in the way she ignored the judges repeated disdain and kept on coming back looking for fairness. She didn’t care what he thought of her – she just wanted to be treated fairly. In the end the widow’s shameless persistence paid off. The judge remained persistently indifferent to her need, but, never-the-less, finally gave in and granted her justice.
God was at work for that widow. He gave her the strength and the hope to persist in her shameless appeal.
We can take courage that even when we are poorly treated the Lord will give us courage to persist. We can also learn about the persistence of prayer. Keep praying. Keep trusting in the Lord – even shamelessly. He loves you and will listen to you.
Keep praying for your children and grandchildren. Keep praying for your neighbours and our community. Keep praying for our leaders. Do they need our prayers? No! they need the actions of the Lord who will listen and respond according to their needs.
