Through this Holy week of Easter we’re travelling a season of contrasts. It began on Palm Sunday with the contrast between exultation and humility – the exultation of that parade into Jerusalem, the cheering of the people, the waving of branches as Jesus entered the city. In hindsight we know that soon there was no cheering only jeering. Jesus went from exultation to humiliation.
On Maundy Thursday we consider the contrast between the old covenant and the new covenant, recognising God’s gift of Holy Communion where we, by God’s grace, participate in Jesus’ death and resurrection as we eat and drink, in faith, the body and blood of Christ.
On Good Friday we consider the contrast between the Old Testament priest and Jesus, our great high priest. We will explore what it means for us that we have a great high priest and that he is seated with the Father interceding for us and all our needs.
On Easter Day we celebrate life as we consider the contrast of death and life.
All through the weeks of Lent we have worshipped and reflected on the Lord’s word that tells us we have been baptised in Christ’s death. On Easter Day we celebrate that just as surely, we have been baptised into His resurrection.
You have been raised to life with Christ.
Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God’s right side.
