I’m wondering what sort of king makes the best king?
There have been all sorts of kings through the ages. Many of them have been kings who led their people in war. Some were builders – others destroyers. Some peacemakers – others warmongers. Even when we think of God our heavenly Father as a king, we know He sent his people into war many times in Old Testament days. Right now across the world, there are leaders of countries who consider themselves to have ultimate power and rule over their people and nations – Presidents, Prime Ministers and Dictators. Some of them are war mongers and some are Peacemakers. Right now at this time in our history, the nation of Australia has a king as head of state – King Charles. What sort of king is he? What sort of king do you think God wants him to be?
God the Father has appointed Jesus as ‘King of kings’. What sort of King is he?
Kings, Queens and other political leaders need to have a very clear and strong sense of their role. A good leader has the wellbeing of their people at the centre of their reign. Jesus is a good king, a great king – to the point of laying down his own life for the sake of his people. In the Revelation reading today the Lord reveals this amazing statement to the churches of the world: He lets us rule as kings and serve God his Father as priests. To him be glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
How real is that. What are the implications for us? What sort of royalty would you be if God appointed you as king or queen over one a nations?
Three times in these short 5 verse from Revelation 1 the Lord speaks of kindness and peace! He is making the connection between us serving as royal leaders and priests, with kindness and peace. What would it take for that to be real life for us?
