Same old . . . Same old: Life? Wife? Strife?
Can and does God do new things in our ‘same old’ lives. Yes, Yes and Yes. This word from Corinthians spells out this truth: Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 He says it again in Revelation 21:5. Then the one sitting on the throne said: I am making everything new. Write down what I have said. My words are true and can be trusted.
I know that sometimes our life can feel like a repetitive pattern where nothing changes – we might feel like we are simply treading water until the Lord brings us home. We may feel like that, but our feelings are not the entire story. In fact, our lives are always in a state of transition – no matter how we feel.
God always has been, and always is, at work in and through us. From the moment of our Baptism into Jesus his Holy Spirit has been guiding, prompting, enlightening and leading us. The challenge is that we human beings can so easily switch off to the Lord and his presence in us. As a result we can miss seeing the “new” things He is doing.
Today’s word encourages us to open our eyes and hearts to see and recognise the Lord at work in and through us.
Lord: Open the eyes of our hearts to see and recognise you. In Jesus name we pray.
