Life together, even though it is not always a bed of roses, is better for us than to be alone. God designed us to live in community. Lifting heavy burdens alone tires us out. In community there is always someone else to share the load. That’s what Jesus demonstrates for us in these words from Matthew. If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
But it’s not just about sharing the burden, bur sharing the joy and celebration. There a saying: When you share a burden the load is halved. When you share a joy, the delight is doubled. That’s what Jesus wants for us.
The New Testament Letters are written to communities. Right through the letters come these ‘one-another’ statements. All adds up to God’s gift: we are created to live in community.
The LCA SA/NT Real Grace / Real Life / Real Life brochure puts it this way: we do real community as we live in grace together. The church is a place where you can belong, where you can make real friends. Where you can discover your calling as we work together.
