Many are anxious about what lies ahead for our world, for the vulnerable, and for creation itself. And yet, here we are — gathered in this place of worship — to be reminded that this cannot be the only world we know. God calls us to see beyond the turmoil of the moment and to live in His eternal reality.
When Jesus’ disciples admired the beauty of the temple, he told them that not one stone would be left upon another. To them, that sounded impossible — the temple was the very symbol of God’s presence! But Jesus knew that true security does not come from buildings or politics or power. It comes from God Himself — the One who remains when all else falls away.
Our readings today invite us to hold two realities together: fear and joy. Malachi and the psalmist both remind us that even when the world seems dark, “the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays.” Psalm 98 paints a glorious picture of all creation singing before the Lord — mountains, rivers, seas, and people joining together in praise. Why such joy? Because they know that God has come to save, and His love and faithfulness never fail.
When we come together as the people of God, we are invited into that same song. Here, in this community of forgiveness and grace, we are surrounded by the warmth of God’s love. Worship frees us from fear and self-centredness. It turns our eyes away from ourselves and toward the God who heals and restores. In a world where arrogance shouts, “My way or the highway,” we are called instead to humility, gratitude, and harmony — to sing together, not as soloists, but as one choir under our Creator’s direction.
There will be days when it’s hard to sing. There will be moments of anxiety, disappointment, or grief. But even then, the voices of others — here beside us, and in heaven above us — will carry the song. For we are never alone. Together we sing with the angels, with the saints, and with all creation, confident that our song of faith will carry us beyond death into eternal joy. So, lift up your hearts. Sing to the Lord a new song! For in Jesus Christ, the Sun of Righteousness has risen upon us, and His light will never fade.
