For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come. Mark 7:21a
Do we focus and worry about how we look to other people? Or do we judge others by their outward appearance? Jesus liberates us to be open about our inward and outward lives. He knows that we often do not scrub up inside or outside as well as we should, or as well as we would like. Jesus frees us to be open and honest about our brokenness so that we can bring our broken hearts and lives to him for repair and redirection. We do this at the start of our worship with our public confession of sins and then we hear the words: “Forgiven. Clean. Whole. New.”
But where do we go from here? Where will Jesus take our heart and life now? How can we set out on a new journey with him as the Lord of our heart? Where will the “eyes of our heart” focus, now that we have a new direction? Where is the Spirit taking us on this exciting and challenging journey of faith?
