Just how visible is Jesus?
I know that sometimes life can be hard – so hard that we lose sight of things that really matter. Sometimes we can’t even see those things that could make a positive difference. We can disconnect from loved ones, friends and neighbours. It can be as if the trouble in our lives blinkers us and robs us of hope. I have even heard people ask: “Where’s Jesus when you really need him?” The objective truth is this: He is right there at the heart of your struggle.
His promise to ‘never leave us’ remains in place. Our challenge is to recognise his presence. I suspect that as people we rely heavily on tangible things – things we can see and touch. But Jesus is there with us in ways beyond our physical senses. The disciples were given a glimpse of his heavenly glory, of a transcendent Lord. It’s this same glorious Lord who continues to come to us in both ordinary and extraordinary ways. From a phone call, a text message, a knock on the door from a friend; to sharing in Holy Communion; He is with you. Lord, open our eyes and hearts to see and recognise you in everyday ways, and in your glory.
