If mercy is one of the central characteristics of God’s heart, then so too is MISSION. At least mission is what we call it. Mission is the word we use as a one-word description of Jesus’ purpose: Jesus came “to seek and to save the lost”. Luke 19:10.
As followers of Jesus we share in His mission. We are today’s generation of disciples. Jesus has the same thing to say to us as those first disciples: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)
I suspect that you, like me, are perhaps wary of this very clear direction. Pastor Guntars in his sermon for this Sunday speaks about some of our fears and uncertainties when it comes to ‘mission’. He also assures us of the Lord’s grace and support as we go about ‘mission’. What does mission look like? How do we do mission? How important is it that we engage in mission? Is this personal or something we do together as the body of Christ? Are we alone in mission? How is mission empowered? What is the place of God’s Holy Spirit in the mission of the ‘Body of Christ’ today?
Pastor Guntars will encourage us as God’s faithful people, seeking the lost at the crossroads of life.
