Today we want to remind each other of who Jesus is to us. We also want to be reminded of who we are to Jesus.
There was time when Jesus had done teaching and quite a few people who had followed him, left him. Can you imagine the sadness that Jesus must have felt. There were some however who would not leave. Instead, they boldly stated their faith and trust in Jesus. They made it clear that they would not leave him: , “Lord, there is no one else that we can go to! Your words give eternal life. We have faith in you, and we are sure that you are God’s Holy One.” They knew who he was! They trusted in him. They invested their lives in him, just as Jesus invested himself in each of them.
Then comes the question, who are we to Jesus? Who are you to Jesus? The answer to this question is connected to our identity. I found a picture story book that captures this and will share it on Sunday. In a nutshell: sometimes we are uncertain of who we are. We can bounce from place to place in our lives desperately searching for who we are. This Sunday we meet Joshua reminding God’s people that once they were lost slaves, but that God had set them free. Now they are people who know and serve the Lord. That’s us. Jesus knows who we are. We know whose we are!
