Over this Easter weekend, we focus on Jesus. On Maundy Thursday, we focus on Jesus serving. On Good Friday we focus on Jesus dying. On Easter Sunday we focus on Jesus living. We know the stories of the original events that shapes our worship and faith today. They still shape our lives today.
We know that Jesus was a serving king. Even on that final night he shared with his disciples before his death, he served them. He got down and washed their feet and then commanded them: if this is what I do for you, then you need to do this for each other and for other people. He served them right down at ground level, right to the end. He continues to serve us.
We know that Jesus died. We know that his death was that of a sacrificial lamb for us and for all people. His death overcomes death. Death has lost that battle. We know that his precious blood washes sin’s stain from us: that we can look to him in confession and be washed clean day after day.
We know that he lives. Because he lives, we can live full lives. Every day: joy is ours, peace is ours, hope is ours. We live life on earth in a prelude to resurrected life into eternity.
