I can’t help but wonder about the various sorts of God moments in our lives: times when we are strongly aware of God putting a call on us.
I wonder, how does he do it? There is no fixed answer. He does it in all sorts of ways. It might be something we read in God’s Word. It may be a Christian friend challenging us to put our gifts to work. It might be something we read or hear from a Christian commentator – even a film or song. It may be an aunty, uncle or parent who affirms our faith and urges us to look beyond our present circumstance. However it happens, it is God’s Holy Spirit at work, prompting us, sometimes time after time, into action. We are free to ignore the call. We can let that moment go by. We may even protest that we don’t have what it takes.
Yes, the Lord has work for each one of us to do in His Kingdom.
Ezekiel was taking it ‘ezy’ when God called him. St Paul urged the Lord to release him from his call – claiming disability. Even Jesus himself could have stepped back when he encountered the cynicism and insults from his own family and home community. We can all find reason to not listen to the Lord.
However, in each of these three instances God’s choice remained. Ezekiel, Paul and Jesus all followed the call of the Lord.
The amazing things is that the Lord provided all that they needed to follow and obey.
God used Ezekiel, he lifted him up to call out the sin of his people and call them back to himself.
He used Paul to faithfully spread, affirm and reinforce the Gospel across the towns and cities of the known world.
And Jesus? Well he went on to be the Saviour of the world – even of those who had rejected him.
Here’s the challenge dear people: to listen to the Lord and trust that when he chooses you for a task in the kingdom, he will provide all you need to serve in that time and space.
