Who is Jesus? Really? Who is he to you? Who is he to me?
Once when Jesus was going from place to place with his disciples, he asked them: “Who do people say I am?” They reflected back some of the people’s understanding: “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” That was fine as a broad understanding, but Jesus really wanted to know about this disciples – the one who knew him best: What about you, “Who do you say that I am?” How did Peter, one of his disciples answer?
“You are the Messiah.”
All sorts of people in all sorts of situations ha ve differing understanding and expectations of Jesus – of the Lord. That demon possessed man who entered into the synagogue at Capernaum where Jesus was teaching certainly knew who he was. “I know who you are! You are God’s Holy One.”
Consider the readings set for today and see who God is in sorts of situations.
But most importantly, who is he to you and to me? And what does that mean for you and me and our lives?
