What is God doing for you this lent?
There’s a lot that we can get caught up in during the season of lent. Often the question is asked ‘What are you giving up for lent?’ and while it is good for us to fast, pray, and give during lent, sometimes all the talk of what we’re doing can cause us to lose sight of what really matters.
Psalm 105 shows us what the focus of lent is all about. It reminds us of everything that God has done for His people—His covenantal promises to Abraham and his descendants and God’s great saving acts through Joseph, Moses, and beyond. And yet, it doesn’t have a single mention of what God’s people did for Him—no mention of ‘deserved’ faithfulness, and no mention of their failure and sin.
This is what lent is all about. It’s a time where we look to all that God has done, is doing, and has promised to do for us. How God has been faithful to His promises, how God provides far more than we need from day to day, how God has promised us eternal life with Him in heaven, and how Christ has won the victory over sin, death, and the devil!
As you go about your life through this season of lent, keep reminding yourself of what God has done for you and how he has been faithful to his promises. Keep on asking yourself the question: “What is God doing for me this lent?”
