In our daily lives it is often the struggles and opposition that weaken us. They hinder and hold us back. Our capacity to persist is weakened; our resilience is compromised. Sometimes it seems our safety lies in withdrawing, pulling back into our own space. That’s happened to me, and perhaps it’s happened to you.
But God did not create us for weakness, to withdraw and hide, to lay back and pull the covers over our faces as if to block out the world. We are made for life – abundant life, and that does not happen when we are hidden away. God has plans and purposes for us – plans that enliven us, bring us satisfaction, and even prove we are truly alive. God said to Ezekiel: Get up and go. You have work to do and I am sending you.
God says to the Apostle Paul: “My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So keep going! Paul realises this and gives witness to this truth: Because when I am weak, I am strong. Even Jesus might have found it easier to give up his mission in the face of angry, upset and disapproving people. Instead, he kept going even stronger!
Dear friends, faith in the Lord strengthens us for love – for abundant life. That strength is best understood as a bold expression of faith.
