Our Gospel for today is contrasting sight and blindness.
The blindness is represented by the Pharisees who constantly refuse to believe that this blind man could possibly have been healed. The gift of sight (and insight) is given to the blindman who was open to God coming to him and leading him down new paths. The Jewish leaders thought that they understood everything and were not willing to being wrong or to have their world opened up to new ways of thinking and seeing. Sometimes it is far more easier to remain in our own blind and dark places where we think that we have all that we need and need not go any further.
Being able to see can be threatening as we become open and vulnerable to new ways of viewing the world.
